Digitizing Tips:

Create a digitizing plan:

Decide which shapes to trace first – look at the image and think of it as layers. Trace the layers in back first. Trace the shapes that should stitch first and leave the details for last.

Here are some suggestions for this image:

  • trace the pumpkins in the order they are layered
  • trace the brown wagon
  • trace the brown stems
  • trace the wheels
  • trace the text
  • trace the green leaves

Determine the stitch tools for each shape:

Consider what stitch to use for tracing each shape. Here are some suggestions for this image:

  • leaves – fill stitch tool
  • pumpkin – fill stitch for each section
  • stems- satin or fill stitch
  • text – text tool – choose your favorite font

A few more tips:

Here’s a few tips for those who are working on this design:

To trace the wheel: use the artwork tool and create one circle and then the other smaller circle. Select BOTH artwork circles in the sequence view and then click on COMBINE on the top right toolbar. (it has a paperclip). It will combine them into ONE shape. Now, use the convert tools on the bottom toolbar and select the FILL and wallaaaa….you have filled the wheel.

The other way you can do it is to use the artwork tool and draw ONE circle and then convert that into a steil stitch using the tool on the bottom toolbar. The wheel is not very wide, so a satin would work too.

Tip: I would create the spokes first and do a run stitch in between each one to minimize the jumps and then do the outer circle to finish it. Pay attention to the layers and which one goes on top of the other ones.

Also, once you make the first one, copy and paste it to the second one, unless you want to torture yourself and do it all over again. 🙂
