Download the image from your email and use your creativity to trace and digitize the image, however you would like.
The PDF guide will include a numbered digitizing plan and suggestions and tips for tracing the image.
Create A Digitizing Plan
Decide which shapes to trace first – look at the image and think of it as layers. Trace the layers in back first. Trace the shapes that should stitch first and leave the details for last.
Digitizing suggestions
The following notes are a few suggestions to help you follow a digitizing plan for this image.
These notes include the order in which I suggest you trace the shapes and the stitch tools that would be the most appropriate for the that shape.
Of course, I encourage you to use your creativity and use whatever stitch and thread colors that you would prefer! That is the benefit of digitizing our own designs. No two will ever be the same!
Digitizing Plan:
Here is a suggested digitizing plan for you to follow:
pumpkin
- trace the pumpkin using the Fill stitch tool
- edit the shapes as needed
- TIP: trace 3 separate shapes to add more interest
DK. Orange Leaf
- trace one half of the leaf using the Fill stitch tool and the same thread color as the pumpkin
- trace the other half of the leaf with a darker orange thread color
- edit the shapes as needed
- Suggestion: use this thread color to also outline the sections of the above pumpkin
Fall – letters
- use the Text tool to create the word FALL
- choose a font that you prefer
Days – letters
- use the Text tool to create the word DAYS
- choose a font that you prefer
- TIP: you may not find a FTCU font that has the loops – you can manually trace these loops using the Steil stitch tool (or Satin Tool)
- edit as needed
Curly shapes
- trace the shape using the Steil Stitch tool
- edit as needed
Pumpkin stem
- trace the pumpkin stem using both the Fill stitch or Satin stitch
- edit the shapes as needed
Green Leaf
- trace the leaf using the Fill stitch tool
- edit the shapes as needed
- TIP: trace the leaf in two separate shapes
Gold Leaf
- trace the leaf using the Fill stitch tool
- edit the shapes as needed
- TIP: trace the leaf in two separate shapes
Leaf stems/veins
- trace the stems using the Satin stitch (to vary the width as needed)
- trace the veins using a Steil stitch
- edit the shapes as needed
- TIP: try to minimize the jump stitches
